One thing Aaron and I have recently realized is how good we both had it growing up. We never had to worry about things pertaining to survival- ie. food, shelter, clothing. We had it GOOD. (Thanks Mom & Dad) Compared to many, we have it really good now too. We have enough money in the bank to get by, a flourishing education, a comfortable-reasonably priced- little apartment, and most importantly we have each other. Life really is great! We have realized more fervently though all the little modern conveniences we were blessed with in our homes growing up. Our little apartment lacked a dishwasher and AC unit. Seemingly minor things. We've gotten by without either of these conveniences for a year now and have done just fine. However, we were getting sick of cooking just one meal and the dishes piling mile high in our tiny sink. We were getting REALLY sick of having to take cold showers only to prop ourselves in front of the fan just to keep from overheating. Maybe we are spoiled to have wanted something better but we went searching anyway. We were able to find relatively inexpensive solutions to our 'problems.' Thank you Craig's List! We got a free portable dishwasher! With only minor repairs we can now run the dishwasher and get on with more important things. We also found a cheap AC unit, rigged our window with plywood + duck-tape, and Voila! No more cranky- sweaty- grouchy Laurel and Aaron! Woohoo! It's amazing what a few added convinces can do for a home. I love our tiny apartment more than ever!
Our AC unit that drops the temperature in the bedroom by 100 degrees.

Our FREE portable dishwasher that fits perfectly in the corner of our kitchen.

How exciting!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are right that sometimes it is too easy to forget how blessed we really are. Way to be so thrifty and handy in making your apartment better!! Those things definitely make life easier. I can't believe you went almost the whole summer without AC.
